Texture tests

Think I'm slowly getting the hang of this... feel free to comment, I'd like to hear some feedback.

  1. Those are really good, especially the first one. If you want to push it a bit further, I'd add a little more texture... There are parts on the first one that really stand out, but some areas look like flat colour... Other than that, excellent! The detail is amazing.

  2. The first one there is the first one I ever made... it was a gonner but I managed to pull it back from the brink. I've learnt so much since starting this so I consider my later ones a tad better... I'm hoping to add more texture detail soon, just trying to get a decent amount of prop/textures ready first. I also want to add some dirt.etc as masks but I'm not really sure how to atm. Thanks for the feedback Ol, when you stare at the same images all day you miss little things that could make it better.

  3. Sweet work Dan! Very nice hardsurfacing :D. How are you achieving your glows?

  4. Thanks man! The glows are achieved by a self illumination map. The diffuse has the lights on a seperate layer with basic layer effects like outer glow.etc. I apply that as my diffuse and then go back into photoshop and desaturate the light layer. I then increase the brightness of that layer and stick a solid black layer behind the lights and save it out as an illumination map. Its the combination of the exact same outer glow layer effects on the diffuse and illumination map that help it work so well. I just experimented with it one morning and had some luck =P
